Chapter 4 Blog
Collaborative culture is an important part in making and maintaining a learning community. Learning communities need both congenial and collegial relationships. Congeniality is the polite and friendly relationship individuals have with each other. Collegiality refers to a shared belief that no one is better or smarter than any individual in the group. Using these relationships allow members to establish trust. “Developing community norms that encourage truthfulness, openness, routine collaboration, and the ability to address difficult issues or conflict” (Nussbaum, 2012). Online connected learners work harder to establish relationships. The community norms will allow member s to feel more comfortable communicating and collaborating.
As a Physician Assistant and connected educator, I want to develop a community that encourages collaboration and truthfulness. Actions online are as important as actions that take place in person. Online actions heavily influence trust establishments and levels. As an educator in the health care field trust is important in teaching. The world of healthcare is constantly changing in many different ways and having trust within my community will allow for reliable information to be shared. I want my community to feel safe and confident in sharing their views and offering their own educational material.

Hi Kayla,
ReplyDeleteAs you mentioned, building a relationship with others, from the start, is most important. Once a relationship is established, building trust with others follows. I am not a health care major, so I do not know much about the field. I agree when you said that online actions have a heavy influence on trust establishments. Building trust strictly through online tasks, is very difficult. This is a topic which is relatable to any field and any industry out there. Building trust with others can make work more enjoyable, and tends to be easier when you build those relationships. I assume in the health care field, it is not easy to build trust with patients, but once you do it makes the relationship bond a lot stronger. It probably is a great feeling when you have patients who trust you and want to build a bond with you. Great post.
Hey Kayla,
ReplyDeleteI think it is great that you want to build a connected learning community that will help you and other Physician Assistants work together to become better at what they do. Chapter four gives great insights on how to establish and nourish those relationships and to create a trustful environment for everyone.
Kayla,
ReplyDeleteI think your summary is really great especially how right from the start you discussed the importance of collaboration, relationships, and Communities. I also think it's really important that you want to start your own community that holds these values. It can be really tough to develop strong relationships and trust sometimes in a work community especially online, so it's good that you have the information from chapter 4 to show you how to make it the best it can be on your part.
